HIGH POINT, N.C. – Coming off its overtime win at Winthrop on Saturday, the High Point University men’s basketball team remains on the road to start the week with a game at Longwood on Wednesday, Feb. 1, in Farmville, Va. The Panthers have won their last three Big South Road games and four out of their five conference road games this season.

• HPU dropped its first game against Longwood this season by a score of 60-55 at the Millis Center on Dec. 31. Redshirt-senior Miles Bowman Jr. led HPU in the game with 17 points and nine rebounds while Khris Lane paced the Lancers with 18 points in the contest. The two teams were tied at 50-50 with two minutes left when Longwood scored seven unanswered points to seal the win.
• High Point enters the week on a five-game win streak after defeating Winthrop on the road, 83-80, for their second-straight overtime win. The Panthers trailed by as much as 14 late in the first half before using a 20-2 run to get back into the game. Bowman Jr. led HPU with 22 points and 10 rebounds while senior Tarique Thompson chipped in with 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
• The double-double by Bowman Jr. was the forward’s fourth straight and his league-leading 11th of the season. He is one of just 27 players in the nation to record at least 10 double-doubles this season.
• Despite ranking as one of the shortest teams in Div. I this season according to KenPom, High Point has been the top rebounding teams in the Big South since the start of league play. The Panthers have won the rebounding battle in eight-straight games and lead the Big South with a +6.6 rebounding margin in conference play. For the season, High Point has allowed just 32.5 rebounds per game, tops in the conference.
• The Panthers feature two players ranked in the top-10 in the Big South in rebounding. Bowman Jr. is ranked second in the Big South and 44th in the nation with 9.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore Ricky Madison ranks ninth in the league with 6.0 rebounds per game.
• HPU has excelled in free throw shooting on the road, going 156-199 (.784). Overall, High Point ranks third in the Big South and 91st in the nation in free throw percentage at .725 (345-472). Redshirt-senior Miles Bowman Jr. leads the Big South and is 13th in the nation in free throw percentage at .905 (76-84).
• Wright currently sits second in the Big South in assists per game (4.0) in his first collegiate campaign. He has 89 assists while committing just 54 turnovers and is third in the conference with a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio.
HISTORY vs. LONGWOOD
High Point holds a 21-7 record in 28 all-time meetings with the Lancers. The Panthers were undefeated in eight-straight games against Longwood before falling at home to the Lancers on New Years Eve, 60-55. High Point earned an 88-80 win in Farmville, Va., last season. Adam Weary scored a career-high 26 and John Brown had 18 for the Panthers. Five players currently on the roster played in the game led by senior Anthony Lindauer who finished with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists off the bench.
HISTORY vs. OPPONENTS FROM VIRGINIA
High Point has complied a 76-71 (.517) record all-time against Div. I programs hailing from the Old Dominion State. HPU’s most common opponents are Radford (20-22, .476), Liberty (16-22, .421) and Longwood (21-7, .750). High Point is 57-51 (.528) against Big South programs from Virginia and 19-20 (.487) against the rest of the state’s Div. I teams. HPU is 1-3 against teams from Virginia this season with losses to Virginia Tech, Longwood and Liberty and a win at Radford.
A LOOK AT THE LANCERS (6-15, 3-7 BIG SOUTH)
Longwood sits at 6-15 on the season and 3-7 in the Big South after falling to Presbyterian College over the weekend. The Lancers have lost seven in a row and won just once in 2017. Redshirt-junior forward Khris Lane is one of the top post players in the Big South and he leads the Lancers in both scoring (16.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg). Guards Darrion Allen (14.1 ppg) and Isaiah Walton (13.2 ppg) combine with Lane to form the backbone of the Longwood offense as the trio have scored nearly two-thirds of the Lancers’ points this season. Longwood has battled the injury bug throughout the season and will have just seven healthy bodies for Wednesday’s game.

High Point returns to the Millis Center on Saturday, Feb. 4, when the team will host the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville. The game is set to tip at 7 p.m. and is part of an ESPN3 basketball doubleheader along with the women’s basketball game against Asheville at 2 p.m. High Point suffered one of its worst losses of the season against the Bulldogs in Asheville earlier this season, falling by a score of 88-58 on Jan. 7.
