Hames, Johansen Lead Way on Elon Women’s Track & Field’s Final Day at Camel City Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Impressive performances for senior Kimberly Johansen and junior Bryanna Hames helped the Elon University women’s track and field team close out its final day at the Camel City Invitational on a high note on Saturday, Feb. 4, inside the JDL Fast Track Complex.

RESULTS

Johansen broke her own school-record in an indoor event for the third time this season as the Chelmsford, England, native established a new personal-best in the Camel City Elite one-mile. Facing a number of professional competitors and some of the top collegiate athletes in the nation, Johansen clocked a 4:45.34 and was the second-fastest collegiate runner in the race finishing eighth overall.

Hames also set a personal-record for the third time this season in the indoor shot put. The Charlotte, N.C., native was the runner-up in the event with a new personal-best heave of 47’ 6.50” (14.49m). Teammate Bre’anna Warren was third overall with a throw of 45’ 3” (13.79m).

Elon took the eighth, ninth and 10th positions in the triple jump. Carrie Abraham was Elon’s top finisher with a leap of 36’ 6.25” (11.13m) in eighth while rookie Melody Burke was ninth at 36’ 4” (11.07m). Senior Jayna Coyle rounded out the top-10 with her mark of 35’ 11.50” (10.96m).

Emily Dixon ran a 9.09 in the semifinal round of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 13th overall. Lydia Laws was the Phoenix’s lone representative in the 200-meters with her time of 27.83.

Elon returns again to the JDL Fast Track next Thursday, Feb. 9, for the JDL Team Challenge.
