Grimsley Boys and Smith Girls Advance to Metro 4A Semifinals with Big Wins Tonight

The Lady Eagles of Smith High defeated The Lady Patriots of Southern Alamance by a score of 46-40. With the win the Eagles will go on to face the #1 seed Page Pirates on Tuesday night at Southeast Guilford.
A Quick Start and Tough Defense Lead the Grimsley Whirlies Past the Southern Alamance Patriots 56-34
The Whirlies came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and never looked back outscoring Southern Alamance in every quarter. Especially the first as junior guard Nate Urquhart scored all 6 of his points in the first frame.
The second quarter was more even as the Patriots tried to mount a comeback by applying some full court pressure to Grimsley. However, going into the half the Whirlies maintained a 32-17 lead.
Sophomore guard Devin Resper was the offensive and defensive catalyst for Grimsley tonight scoring a game high 13 points and he came up with 3 steals.
Southern Alamance was paced by Kyle Forbes who ended with a team high 11 points and ripped down 5 boards.
Grimsleys key to their win tonight had to be their defensive effort. Holding the Patriots to just 34 points with mixes of zone and man. They were communicating and moving well forcing Southern Alamance into some tough spots and ultimately turning the ball over to Grimsley.
Grimsley ended up winning 56-34. It was a true team effort for the Whirlies as seven players scored 6 or more points.
With the win the Whirlies look to keep their momentum going as they look to face the Dudley Panthers in the conference semifinal.
