Elon Women’s Tennis Phoenix Completes Perfect Homestand with 5-2 Victory over Davidson

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team stayed perfect at home with a 5-2 victory against Davidson on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

FINAL RESULTS

Elon improved to 7-3 with the win, while Davidson fell to 5-2. The Phoenix completed its homestand 3-0 and is now 5-0 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center this season.

“We played very well today,” Elon head coach Elizabeth Anderson said. “We were probably the most focused from start to finish that I’ve seen us this spring. I think we gained a lot of confidence in the things that we’ve been working on. Our doubles was much improved.”

The Highlights
Elon took a 1-0 lead into singles play after winning on two of the three doubles courts. Kirsten Ward and Suzanne Zenoni won their third straight match with a 6-2 victory on court No. 2.

The duo of Erica Braschi and Olivia Lucas secured the point with a 6-2 triumph at No. 3 doubles. Maria Paraja and Alex Koniaev led 4-3 on court No. 1, but went unfinished.

Ward began singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ava Todd on court No. 4. Elon’s lead stood at 3-0 after Sofia Edo extended her winning streak to six matches with a win at No. 6 singles.

Paraja clinched the match for Elon with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court No. 3 against Gabrielle Centenari. Braschi added another point by winning a 6-4, 6-4 decision on court No. 1 over Anna Feaster.

Davidson picked up victories on court Nos. 2 and 5. Alex Koniaev had a four-match winning streak snapped with a loss to Alexandra Abele in straight sets.

– Kirsten Ward and Suzanne Zenoni’s 6-2 doubles victory marked the pairing’s third straight win. The duo is 3-0 at the No. 2 position and 5-1 overall this season.
– Sofia Edo extended her singles winning streak to six matches with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Samantha Armas. All six of her wins have come at the No. 6 position.
– Erica Braschi won her third straight singles match, while Maria Paraja’s singles winning streak now stands at four matches.
