Elon Receives Votes in Both National WLAX Polls

ELON, N.C. – For just the second time in program history, Elon University women’s lacrosse is receiving votes in both the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Coaches and Inside Lacrosse media polls released Monday, Feb. 20.

In the IWLCA poll, Elon joins a pair of ACC schools in Virginia – a team it defeated 11-10 back on Feb. 11 in Charlottesville – and Boston College as the only programs receiving votes in the poll. In the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse media poll, the Phoenix is the top team among the nine squads receiving votes and places ahead of the likes of Boston College, Stanford, Virginia, Connecticut, Ohio State, Louisville, Albany and fellow CAA rivals Delaware and Hofstra.

Only once before has Elon received votes in national polls. Last season on Feb. 29 after Elon jumped out to a 4-1 start, the Phoenix received votes in both polls. Additionally this week, Elon ranks No. 19 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Top-20.

Back in action Thursday, Feb. 23, Elon will host Notre Dame. Opening draw at Rudd Field is set for 6 p.m. The Fighting Irish rank No. 11 in the Inside Lacrosse poll and No. 9 in the IWLCA Coaches poll. Thursday’s game marks the fourth time Elon has hosted a nationally-ranked team and represents the third time since the start of last season a ranked team has come to Rudd Field.
