How It Happened: Clemson loaded the bases with a single and two walks in the first before Kyle Brnovichrecorded his second strikeout of the inning to end the Tiger threat.

The game remained 0-0 until the last of the fifth when Patrick Cromwell connected on a 1-0 pitch for a solo homer to right. A single and walk followed before Brnovich recorded his fifth strikeout before departing. A fly out advanced a runner to third before a pair of wild pitches allowed a second Tiger run to score.

Clemson put runners on second and third to start the bottom of the sixth before two strikeouts. However, on the second strikeout, the ball got away and the runner from third was able to score to make it a 3-0 contest.

Elon threatened in the eighth as Joe Satterfield and Garrett Stonehouse led off with singles. Tiger reliever Jacob Hennessy then shut the door with three consecutive strikeouts to keep the Phoenix off the board.

The Phoenix would look to score again in the ninth as CJ Young singled and went to second on a one-out walk to Cam Devanney. Hennessy escaped once again as he got a fly out to right and a ground ball to second to end the game.

Notes: Three of Elon’s five hits came in the final two innings… 2016 Dick Howser Trophy winner Seth Beer went 0-for-4 and saw his streak of reaching base safely snapped at 66 games.
