PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Guilford College’s men’ golf team shot 309 in Monday’s opening round of the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate at the Callaway Gardens Mountain View Course. The Quakers sit 11th in the 18-team field, 13 shots behind first-round leader Huntingdon College (296).

Junior Josh Hill carded Guilford’s best round with a four-over-par 76 on the 6,976-yard course. He made the turn at one-over, a number he held until he bogeyed three of the final six holes. Hill shares 30th place in the 102-man field. Rookie teammates Zach Evens and Kell Graham sit one stroke Hill behind after opening-round scores of 77. Evens made four of his team-high five birdies on the back nine, but tempered that success with five bogeys over the same span, including a double on 18.

Harrison Frye shot 79 Monday, which provided Guilford’s fourth score towards the team mark. Justin Perdue carded an 85 for the Quakers.

The tournament features 12 squads ranked among the top 25 of the NCAA Division III Team Ratings, including number-15 Guilford. Huntingdon is the top-ranked club.

Emory University’s Connor Yakubov shot Monday’s low round, a two-under 70, and holds the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Christopher Newport University’s Harry Nodwell and the University of the South’s Tommy Oliver both shot 71.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday.
