Elon’ s Asher Earns Second CAA WLAX Player of the Week Award

RICHMOND, Va. – Stephanie Asher of Elon University women’s lacrosse has been tabbed the CAA Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

Asher led the Phoenix attack with five goals and an assist for six points as Elon took down No. 19 Virginia Tech 13-12 in overtime on the road in Blacksburg, Va., last week on Wednesday, March 1. The junior attacker also added two ground balls and a draw control in Elon’s second win over a ranked opponent this season.

Through six games, Asher’s 23 goals leads the CAA. She has converted her 23 goals on 47 shots, good for a 48.9 percent conversion rate on the year. In her career, Asher has netted 105 goals and is already Elon’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Earlier this season, Asher also won CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 7 following a five-goal performance against Campbell in the season-opening win over the Camels. In her career, the junior has now won three Player of the Week awards to date.

Elon is back in action Wednesday night, March 8, when it hosts Vanderbilt. First draw at Rudd Field is set for 6 p.m. Elon enters the game as a ranked team for the first time in program history after checking in Monday at No. 19 in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse Media poll. The Phoenix is also the top receiving votes in the IWLCA Coaches poll.
