GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team defeated Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday, 10-3.

The Tigers used a two-run third inning to take an early lead before the Pride plated three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead.

Zach Neumeister scored Hunter Curtis with a bases loaded walk before Daniel Efird plated Brady Dignan and Brandon Soden with a double to right-center field.

Hampden-Sydney was then able to even the score with one run in the sixth inning but Greensboro gained a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning following a Tigers error.

Greensboro continued its momentum in the eighth inning as they scored the game’s final six runs to secure the victory.

Blake Glass, Brandon Soden, Dignan, Jimmy Short, and Adam Murray each had RBI hits, with Dignan’s single plating two runs.

“We got a solid start from Tyler (Garam) and Cameron (Whitson) did an outstanding job closing out the final four innings,” Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. “Offensively we hit some balls hard early but had little to show for it.

“Our hitters continued to battle and did not get discouraged as they were able to open it up late in the game. We have to clean up or defense and continue working hard to get better every day.”

Dignan went 4-of-5 at the plate to lead the Pride, while adding two RBIs. Neumeister, Efrid, Murray, and Curtis had two hits each, while Short, Glass, and Soden had one hit each. Tyler Garam did not factor into the decision despite recording four strikeouts over five innings. Cameron Whitson picked up his first collegiate victory after allowing one run over four innings.

The Pride baseball team will return to action at 3 p.m. Friday when they open a three-game set at North Carolina Wesleyan. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
