Women’s Golf: HPU Tied for Second at Low Country Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C.—The High Point University women’s golf team sits in a tie for second place after the first round of the Low Country Intercollegiate Saturday (March 18) at the Moss Creek Golf Club South Course (Par 72 – 5,922 yards) in Hilton Head, S.C.

In windy conditions, the Panthers shot a combined 32-over 320, but trails leader Dalton State by just one stroke. HPU is tied for second with Quinnipiac, Seton Hall and USC Upstate.

“I’m extremely pleased with the position we’ve found ourselves in after day one,” HPU head coach Alexis Bennett said. “We’ve proven that even when we aren’t at our best, we still have what it takes to compete. Tomorrow is going to be a shootout with the leaderboard the way it is, but I am so excited to get out there again with this group. If we clean up some mistakes in the closing stretch, we have what it takes to get the job done tomorrow.”

Freshman Samantha Vodry paces the Panthers at 5-over (77) and is in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings. Fellow freshman Tonrak Tasaso is tied for 12th with a 7-over 79.

Freshman Anna-Marie Kuenzle shot 9-over 81, while senior Danielle Fuss was 11-over 83.

The Panthers start the second and final round Sunday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
