“I am incredibly proud of this team today,” HPU head coach Alexis Bennett said. “We got off to a really poor start, but mid-round were able to really turn it around and finish stronger than we have all season. The determination and maturity the girls displayed today was what really impressed me. We have grown so much and learned a lot leading up to this weekend.”

It is High Point’s eighth team tournament win in the program’s NCAA Division I history and the first since capturing the title at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate March 30-31, 2014.

“This is a huge confidence boost for us as we inch closer to the Big South Championships,” Bennett said. “It’s a big step in the right direction to grab the first direction to grab the first victory for the program in three years. I’m so excited for the direction in which we are headed.”

The Panthers shot a combined 30-over 318 on Sunday to finish the 36-hole tourney at 62-over, three shots ahead of Big South foe Gardner-Webb (+65). The 17-team field also including Big South schools UNC Asheville and Longwood.

High Point was led by a pair of freshmen, Tonrak Tasaso and Samantha Vodry, who finished in a tie for third in the individual standings at 12-over 156. Tasaso shot 5-over 77 on Sunday, while Vodry was 7-over 79.

Senior Danielle Fuss finished tied for 33rd at 21-over after shooting 82 in the second round, while freshman Anna-Marie Kuenzle was tied for 55th at 24-over after an 85 on Sunday.

Next up, the Panthers compete at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate April 2-3 at the Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Morganton, N.C.
