College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Places 17th at Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 308 in Sunday’s third and final round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational at the par-72, 6,700-yard Pine Lakes Golf Club. The Quakers shot 913 over the 54-hole tournament and placed 17th among 29 teams.

Greensboro College shot Sunday’s low round (288) and climbed five spots to win the tournament, which featured 15 teams ranked in the top 25 of this week’s Golfstat.com NCAA Division III Head-to-Head Ratings, including the 16th-ranked Quakers and five top-10 squads.

Oglethorpe University’s Jacob Arnett carded a one-under-par 71 Sunday to eclipse Huntingdon College’s Addison Lambeth and Greensboro’s Grant Powell for medalist honors. Arnett shot 73-68-71-212, one better than Lambeth (69-72-72-213) and Powell (72-72-69-213).

Sophomore Josh Hill and freshman Zach Evens paced Guilford’s individuals Sunday with matching scores of four-over 76. Hill recorded all three of his Sunday birdies on the back nine holes. He had Guilford’s best individual effort for the tournament with a seven-over 223 that shared 26th place among the 150 contestants. Freshman Kell Graham and junior Harrison Frye both shot 78 Sunday to account for Guilford’s other scores.

Graham’s 79-72-78-229 ranked second on the team and placed 67th among individuals. Evens was one stroke behind (76-78-76-230) and came home in 76th place. Frye (80-75-78-233) tied for 91st. Senior Ty Palmer (78-79-84-241, T119) rounded out Guilford’s five entries.

The Quakers’ Kendall Dunn played as an individual and shot 78-77-75-230 for a share of 76th place.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers meet Hope College and Luther College in a three-team event March 22 at the Winter Haven Country Club in Florida.
