College Men’s Lacrosse Final – #18 Roanoke 16, Guilford 9

GREENSBORO, N.C. – IV Stucker and Kevin Jackson scored three goals apiece in Roanoke College’s 16-9 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win at Guilford College Tuesday night.

The Maroons (6-1, 2-0 ODAC) are ranked 18th in this week’s United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/Nike NCAA Division III Poll.

Jackson collected all three of his scores in the Maroons’ 6-1 run to start the game. He scored the game’s first tally 30 seconds into the match and netted his third score with 6:26 left in the first quarter, which made it a 5-1 Roanoke lead. Peter Lindley scored just over two minutes later to cap the run.

The Maroons built their 7-2 first-quarter lead with four straight goals, including tallies by Dylan Fitzgerald and Cameron Linsley just 13 seconds apart. Jason Sarro scored from Linsley 9:35 before halftime to make it an 11-2 game, but the Quakers reeled off the final three scores of the quarter and trailed, 11-5, at halftime.

The tightly played second half saw Roanoke outscore the Quakers by a slim 5-4 margin. Guilford’s Aswan (Mableton, Ga./Milton (Shorter)) Bland scored twice and goalie Parker Styles (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter) made 13 of his career-high 26 saves in the half. Styles’ 26 stops match the third-highest single-game total in school history and the most saves in a game by a Quaker since 2007.

Stucker and Pickett Riehl both scored twice in the second half for Roanoke, which outshot Guilford, 72-44, in the game. Nine different Maroons scored goals, including Sarro, Riehl and Brendan Devane, who each tallied twice. Roanoke’s Kevin Jackson served up four assists. Goalie Ian Davies stood tall in goal with 15 saves. Linsley won 14-of-16 draws and had eight ground balls to help Roanoke enjoy a 21-7 edge in face-off wins.

Guilford’s Bland matched his career high with four goals, which led all students. Nick Damiano netted three scores and Connor Sweeney added a goal and an assist. Styles added a career-high eight ground balls and caused two turnovers in his historic night.

Coach Tom Carmean’s Quakers visit league-rival Shenandoah University Saturday (3/25) at 1:00 p.m.
