College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Shenandoah 9, Guilford 8 (ot)

WINCHESTER, Va. – Connor Bishop’s goal four minutes into overtime gave Shenandoah University a dramatic 9-8 men’s lacrosse win over visiting Guilford College Saturday.

Guilford (4-5, 0-3 ODAC) overcame an 8-3 third-quarter deficit and forced extra time with a furious fourth-quarter rally. The Quakers’ scored three times in the final two minutes, including Aaron Parrish’s goal with 15 seconds left in regulation that tied the score at 8-8.

Both teams traded overtime possessions as Parker Styles stopped Shenandoah’s Michael Brooks at the 3:47 mark and a Parrish shot went wide at the other end. Shenandoah successfully cleared the ball after the miss and Bishop netted the game-winning goal off an Eric Sawyer assist.

The Hornets (6-3, 0-3 ODAC) built a 7-2 third-quarter lead thanks to two goals apiece by Brooks and Ryan Schott. Schott’s third and final goal of the game made it an 8-3 Shenandoah lead with 4:50 left in the third quarter.

Nick Damiano started the Quakers’ comeback with an unassisted goal with 41 seconds left in the third quarter. The score remained 8-4 until Zack Capwell’s man-up score at the 4:50 mark of the fourth. Parrish connected three minutes later to pull Guilford within 8-6. A face-off violation gave the Quakers’ possession again and Connor Sweeney found Zach Berkowitz for a Guilford score with 1:33 left. Alex Ramey won the ensuing face-off for Guilford and following a timeout and missed shot by Berkowitz, Parrish scored the tying tally.

Guilford owned a commanding 55-35 edge in shots, including an 18-6 fourth-quarter edge, but Hornets’ goalie Ben Judy made 17 saves, eight in the second half. Parrish’s two goals led the Quakers’ six different goal scorers. Parker Styles made nine saves and had four ground balls in goal.

Schott’s four points on three goals and an assist paced Shenandoah’s offense. Andrew Shy won 12-of-20 face-offs and picked up a game-high five ground balls.
