GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College’s Kaylee Johnson hit three-for-four with one RBI as Guilford College dropped a Thursday afternoon contest with Greensboro, 9-7. The game started on March 1st at Guilford’s Haworth Field as Greensboro’s home game, but was suspended in the bottom of the second inning due to thunderstorms. The contest concluded at Latham Park, Greensboro’s home field.
The Quakers jumped to a 3-0 lead after the top of the third inning in a three-run rally sparked by an Erin Ogden RBI-double with one out. Sabrina Moreno capped the rally in the last at-bat of the half-inning with a two-RBI double to right field that ended when she was put out attempting to reach third base. Moreno knocked a second double into right field two innings later after two quick outs in the fifth frame. Moreno cashed in on a Greensboro error one at-bat earlier to claim a 4-0 lead.
A Madison Crisco home run led off the bottom half of the fifth, which sparked a two-run rally for Greensboro. Katy Holt countered with a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning, her fourth of the season, to extend the lead to five.
The Pride answered with a seven-run rally, all with two outs, capped by a Brittainy Rush RBI-single to right-center field to bolster the Pride to victory.
Moreno totaled three RBI and two doubles in a two-for-four effort, now hitting safely in 26 of 27 games played this season. Caroline Barnette hit two-for-two to represent the remaining Quakers’ bat with multiple hits.
Danielle Hunt (3-2) took the loss for the Quakers in a five and two-third innings effort where she fanned three and walked one.
Maddie Wetherholt (12-5) took the win for Greensboro in a six-inning effort where she struck out one and walked three. Brittany Nozet collected her first save of the season, striking out one in the final inning.
The Quakers return home Saturday, hosting nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon College for a 1:30 p.m. Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader.
