Track and Field: HPU’s Case Wins Second Event at VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Sophomore Keaton Case won her second event of the weekend as the High Point University women’s track and field team finished action at the ninth-annual VertKlasse Meeting Saturday (April 1) at Vert Stadium.

Case captured the 800 meters in 2:12.00 after winning the 1,500 meters on Friday. Senior Natalia Ocasio finished eighth in 2:15.81, while fellow senior Cozette Collin was 19th overall in 2:19.90.

In the discus, junior Makenzi Holmes-DiGiovine posted a fourth-place finish with a season-best throw of 45.69m (149-11).

Senior Jamie Schnuck placed seventh in the hammer throw with a heave of 53.02m (173-11).

Freshman Kanajzae Brown finished ninth in a time of 12.12 in the 100 meters, making her HPU outdoor debut.

Sophomore Emmy Geis was 12th in the 400m hurdles in 1:04.38, while freshman Ariel Wilbeken was 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.16m (36-7.5).

In the final event of the meet, the 4x400m relay team of Geis, junior CeAnna Soper, Collin and Case placed sixth in 4:02.15.

Next up, a select group of Panther student-athletes will compete at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational April 7-8 in Lynchburg, Va.


HPU Men Finish Action at VertKlasse Meeting
HIGH POINT, N.C. — The High Point University men’s track and field team finished action at the ninth-annual VertKlasse Meeting Saturday (April 1) at Vert Stadium.

Freshman Pablo Romero Gonzales placed seventh in the high jump clearing a height of 1.89m (6-2.25).

Junior James House finished eighth in the 100 meters in 10.73 and 15th overall in the 200 meters in 22.05.

The duo of sophomore Alejandro Juan Torres and senior Vinny Todaro placed eighth in 1:55.55 and 18th in 1:57.43, respectively.

Freshman Carter Clasper cleared a height of 4.62m (15-1.75) in the pole vault to finish ninth. HPU assistant coach Scott Houston finished second after clearing the bar at 5.12m (16-9.5).

In the discus, sophomore Britton Mann finished 11th with a throw of 44.40m (145-8).

The 4x100m relay team of junior Sean Banda, freshman Sam Thomas, sophomore Brad Kanney and James House finished ninth in 42.27.

Next up, a select group of Panther student-athletes will compete at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational April 7-8 in Lynchburg, Va.
