Elon’s Jackson Named National Baseball Player of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – After being named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Baseball Player of the Week earlier in the day, Elon senior outfielder Kyle Jackson was among those recognized by one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week on Monday, April 3.

Jackson led the Phoenix to a 4-0 week after batting .467 (7-for-15) with two doubles, four home runs, six runs scored and 14 RBI. The Atlanta, Ga., native went deep twice and drove in a season-best five runs in Tuesday’s win over High Point. He then homered and drove in four as the Phoenix beat James Madison, 7-1, on Friday. Jackson followed that up by smacking the first grand slam of his Elon career in Saturday’s 9-2 triumph over the Dukes. On the week, Jackson slugged 1.400 and had a .579 on-base percentage. He also stole one base and recorded two outfield assists. Jackson has hits in eight of his last 10 games and has reached base safely in 13 consecutive contests.

On the year, Jackson is hitting .333 (35-for-105) with 20 runs score. He is tied for the team lead with 12 doubles and paces the maroon and gold with eight homers and 30 RBI.

Jackson is the second Elon player to earn national player of the week honors from Collegiate Baseball this year, joining pitcher Robbie Welhaf who picked up the distinction in week one.
