Elon Men’s Tennis Phoenix Sweeps Shaw in Home Finale

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Shaw on Wednesday afternoon, April 12, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The win gives Elon seven home triumphs entering the CAA Tournament next week, which will be held at the JPTC and the Burlington Tennis Center.

FINAL RESULTS

Overall, Elon now stands 9-11 through 20 matches while Shaw fell to 5-7 on the season. The Phoenix will play two more matches in the coming days to close the regular season. With one more win, Elon would reach double-digit victories for the fifth-straight season.

The Rundown
Elon got a boost before the match ever started with Shaw only having five healthy players. Playing two doubles matches and already halfway to the point with No. 3 going down as a win by default for the Phoenix, Felipe Sarrasague and Taylor Foote used a perfect 6-0 win at No. 2 to clinch the point. Elon completed the sweep of the point at No. 1 with Petar Tomic and Mario Paccini winning 6-4.

In singles play, the Phoenix eased to wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 5. Felipe Osses-Konig got it started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5. He was quickly followed by Paccini taking a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 to make it 4-0 Phoenix.

Tomic then followed suit with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 to make it a 5-0 Elon lead. Salvador Mijares made it 6-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 2 and Sarrasague completed the sweep of the Bears with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1.
