Hendon Hooker at Virginia Tech, but the Dudley Panthers will still be strong and DEEP at QB in 2017

Dudley will be deep at quarterback this coming Fall of 2017, and that is with the former Panther starter, now entrenched in a QB battle, at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia….

Hendon Hooker working to be the starting QB as a freshman for the VA Tech Hokies, while back home in Greensboro, the Dudley Panthers will be deeper than ever at the quarterback position….

For Dudley you will have senior Richard ‘Quad’ Monroe pushing to be the #1 Dudley Panther QB, after being the backup to the 4-A State Champion QB of 2016, Hendon Hooker…

Alston Hooker, Hendon Hooker’s younger brother, was the #3 signal-caller for the Dudley Panthers as a freshman and saw action in quite of few of the Panthers’ games….

Now Alston, as a sophomore, should be ready to be the backup to Quad Monroe in 2017, when the Panthers hit the field, as a 3-A football factor…

So, you have Monroe #1, Alston Hooker #2 and now you have former Northeast Guilford QB Gerald Simpson enrolled at Dudley and we are hearing G Simpson is in the Dudley Academy and with the way he was able to play QB for NEG, Simpson should be a key option at QB this coming Fall for Dudley….

Gerald Simpson has the ability to pass and he can run too and he will be able to play some defense for Dudley, either at DB or at LB…He was a strong LB for Northeast Guilford last season….Simpson really was a strong running quarterback for the Northeast Guilford Rams…..

Dudley QB’s…
1)Monroe
2)A. Hooker
3)Simpson

*****The big question comes into play, as we say, “How much QB time will G. Simpson get at Dudley High School???”……..*****

Simpson to Dudley and it happened at the end of the 3rd grading quarter and that means Gerald Simpson has now been over at Dudley somewhere in the neighborhood of the past 4 weeks……….

+++++Interesting move and it sure makes Dudley stronger than ever, but where does this leave the Northeast Guilford Rams and new head coach Earl Bates???+++++

  1. Good luck to Northeast and the Simpson kid,he is a special talent and will be missed, but Coach Bates will have the Rams ready to compete!

  2. Monroe will be a junior this year not a senior. Also Gerald Simpson is not in the dudley academy. You cannot enroll into the academy after your sophomore year. His family moved into the district.

  3. Getting some good comments and the word from the Witness is one we can take to the bank and trust…He has true knowledge of the situation….

    Dudley will be deep…

So we do have Simpson the senior, Monroe the junior and Hooker the sophomore….That is how they line up….

  4. I just want to know how it is allowed. Three schools in 3 years all for athletics. Not happy at Grimsley. Hey an idea. Let’s move to NE. Not happy at NE. Hey an idea. Let’s try a football powerhouse this year. Go Panthers. Let’s try Dudley. Why Not? We can move there too and call it the academy.

  5. “Not cool” didn’t know it was that serious. Its high school sports. It’s really unfair for you to make comments and don’t really know that situation. “Best of luck” you need to get your facts straight that 3 school in four years. “Not cool” you can move in the district too, but will your kid play. Is it upsetting people because this talented kid move to Dudley? Is that the problem?

  6. Is he enrolled in Dudley currently? If so, 3 high schools in three years…as I said. If not, and he is enrolling in the fall, then I stand corrected. Housemoney…. which is it?

  7. Best of luck, still what the problem? We don’t get upset when coach move on. I.E in the last three years coach Bates have been at three school and other coaches have move around, but nothing said. Still is there a problem because he at Dudley?

  8. G. Simpson moved into the Dudley district, so not in the Dudley Academy, but in Dudley High School and there now and has been there since late March…

The County(Guilford County Schools System) allowed the move/change/transfer so it is legal and the move is on the GCS/County, not on Dudley…

Dudley has been getting tons of requests for students to come in there and many are athletics related and GCS/The County has to approve all moves…

This seems to be a growing national trend and parents feel they have the best shot to be seen by the top college football programs, when they have their children enrolled in the Top HS Football programs in their county/area…

A few years back, many, yes many families were flocking toward Northern and now the trend seems to be leaning/going heavy toward Dudley, with all of the success that the Panthers are having/experiencing…

We have broken this down as best as possible and let’s do our best not to lay it down too hard on the young men, they and their families are doing what they think is best for the situation and as long as the GCS/County allows the moves, they will continue…

The hard part becomes, you really can’t tell a family where the can or can not live or move to….

The county/GCS said at one time that they were going to put in place a rule or stipulation that says if you move for what they determine to be athletic purposes, then you have to sit out or miss all athletics for one year/season/full school year…

Hard to make that one-year sit out rule stick with a senior….How can you legally make someone sit out one year when it is their last year in high school and have already come to the conclusion that you can not block a family from moving into a new school district???

There are many layers to look at when you start to peel this onion, and with the success schools like Dudley have been having, you don’t have to go looking for football players, they(football players) are knocking the doors down trying to get in there….

For Dudley you would just look up and look on the list and see who you have on your player list and your new player list….

The players families are the ones working to get their football sons to Dudley, and not Dudley not going out trying bring players in there….

And this is at least how we see it and we may be off base, but we have to be close on many of these issues….

Sort of like in basketball, families look to get their kids to Greensboro Day School, due to the program’s continued success, but it is a bit different with them since they are private and people are paying to go there and they do not work with District boundaries….

A deep subject and not one to be looked at with just a glance, this is a complex issue….

And we carry on….And we don’t have all of the answers, but this is how we see much of the situation unfolding….

Where will you be attending high school at this Fall?

  9. Ive watched Monroe since his 9th grade year. The kid is a gamer who can make all the throws. He came in against Davie County last year and the offence did not miss a beat. Talented

  10. Oh Wow, wasn’t expecting a move of this caliber. Gerald Simpson is one of the most underrated athletes in the area, arguably in the State. The Kid has a lot of talent and this could potentially be a breakout season for him. Dudley has talent and I expect them to find a way to use both Simpson/Monroe. This should be a highly competitive training camp for the Panthers this summer….

  11. Both of them are good QBs, but we’ve watched young Hooker practice and workout. Don’t sell him short. He looks to me to be right in the mix

  12. If a kid continues to move like this it’s usually more to do with the Parents and less to do with the kids. These parents now a days think just cause their kid is a starting QB at a school and can complete a few passes they should get a scholarship. Someone tell these parents the College coaches are going to the schools they left and asking those coaches why the kid left. Trust me when I say the college coaches believe the HS coaches way more than they do a parent of a kid.

  13. Or maybe the kids parents have issues with housing, or he feels that he will get more looks from colleges at Dudley, or maybe he just thinks he has a better shot at winning a State title at Dudley? Either way, I thought this was the “home of the free”? Some people want to build and make something and some jump on the bandwagon of who they think will get them somewhere. Personally, I’m not sure you can fault him. Maybe the kids at Grimsley and Northeast just weren’t as dedicated as he seems to be? Either way we should wish him luck and work on supporting “our” teams. That is just MHO.

  14. Why are some people so concerned with what kids are doing as it relates to sports if they are not a direct fan of this kid? I know this is a sports site but did you ever consider that this family could also be searching for the best combination of sports and education for their son. No one can argue that Dudley won’t have their share of college coaches calling and coming in person about players. I will also tell you from personal experience that college coaches are far more concerned about a players potential down the line and their educational readiness for college. This is not the NFL draft. College coaches will primarily (if not only) focus on what is in front of them unless there was some sort of social or legal matter in the kids recent history. College coaches will rarely reach back to pass coaches for a high school players. They will only be concerned with Coach Davis opinion going forward. I am personally happy to see parents that are willing to put their kid in the best situation for education, sports, living arrangements or whatever. If all of this leads to this kid not costing his parents $100-200k for an undergraduate degree, then more power to this family.

  15. And we do wish the young man the best of luck at his new school..

Stay healthy and a good season is on the way for Gerald Simpson and many fans forget that he is equally if not better on the defensive side of than he is on offense…

He can play linebacker and could play DB if necessary…Very quick and very strong and his college future may be as a defender instead of as a QB….

  16. G IS A D1 TALENT LOYALTY TO HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS IS A JOKE IT’S JUST A BUSSINESS DECISION THE TWO SCHOOLS HE LEFT WOULD HAVE LEFT HIM IN SAME SITUATION CAUSE THEY BOTH HAVE HAD MULTIPLE coaches ITS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FOOTBALL TEAM AND A PROGRAM DUDLEY IS THE ONLY SCHOOL AROUND THAT HAS A COMPLETE PROGRAM PAGE IS CLOSE BUT THERE WEIGHT LIFTING IS TERRIBLE it also takes a supportive administration and last but not least results that’s self explanatory as a parent if my kid was legit player he would HAVE TO GO TO DUDLEY I WOULDN’T WASTE TIME WITH THE OTHERS
