Longtime Triad Radio Personality has passed away

Well known for the popular Wes and Willie Show on the old K99 FM/WRQK when Tom Armshaw ran the station back in the 70’s and early 80’s….

Wes Jones gone at age 68 and got the word on Wes this morning from Don Moore, here at GreensboroSports.com and got more info/insight from Buddy Bray, who knew Wes Jones, since back in the 60’s….At one time, that Wes and Willie Show was the top-rated morning radio show in the Triad, and Wes Jones was a man who loved his BBQ and wanted one more shot to eat some BBQ with Buddy Bray, Dusty Dunn, Bob Roach, Willie Edwards and some more of his former radio associates from over the years, but the chance meeting was cut short, with his untimely death last night at the High Point Regional Hospital…..

Longtime radio personality Wes Jones has passed away after having surgery Friday evening.

Jones was a fixture on the airwaves of multiple local stations for years.

His most successful position came when he teamed up with Willie Edwards to form the area’s first two-man morning team in 1977 at WRQK 98.7 in Greensboro. They were on that station for 10 years before moving their show to WKOQ in Lexington in 1986.

Jones also worked at local stations WMAG, WMFR, WIST and WLXN.

Jones was 68 years old.
