Series History
Elon has won 35 of the previous 52 meetings with UNCG and is 15-3 all-time against the Spartans at Latham Park. Despite being separated by less than 25 miles, the two programs did not meet until 1991 with Elon claiming an 11-9 victory. UNCG won the previous meeting this year, downing Elon 12-8 at UNCG Baseball Stadium in March.

Nearing (and Passing) 100
Two Phoenix players have passed the 100-hit mark for their Elon careers this season. Sophmore Ryne Ogren reached the 100-hit mark with a double in game one at William & Mary. He now has 119 hits. Senior Kyle Jackson notched his 100th hit in an Elon uniform against High Point and now has 109 hits. Jackson is in his second year with the team.

On the mound, senior Jordan Barrett (in his second season in the maroon and gold) picked up the 100th strikeout of his Elon career by striking out the first batter he faced in game two against James Madison. He’s now at 135 career Ks. Senior Nick Beaulac (in his third year with the team) posted his 100th career strikeout against #20 Wake Forest.

Brnovich Racking Up the Ks
Freshman righty Kyle Brnovich has struck out 80 hitters during his rookie campaign. That marks the second-most by an Elon freshman pitcher during the program’s NCAA Division I tenure. The only player with more is Steven Hensley who fanned 96 hitters in 2006.

  1. Don’t understand Elon’s recruiting/hitting philosophy. UNCG is in the top 5 in hitting with players from the Triad!

  2. Shocker…Offensively, what a gap in talent and mechanics! Just as I stated earlier that I just don’t get Elon’s philosophy. It was like watching Varsity vs JV. Programs heading in different directions.

  3. GRaven,

It’s more about Elon’s entrance requirements and the cost of tuition. It’s harder to recruit kids that can get into Elon and also have the funds to afford the balance of tuition after the scholarship is accounted for. It can be done however as Wake Forest has become more competitive in the ACC in recent years.

  4. Commodore,

I agree on the tuition issue on some level, but the failure to recruit locally is a issue as well. The 4 local kids for UNCG went 7-17 with 9 RBI’s!
