How It Happened: Walks were the story of Liberty’s half of the first inning as the Flames drew five walks, including three with the bases loaded, to build a 5-0 lead. Liberty also had two hits, including an RBI single from Kowalo.

After Liberty had built a 6-0 lead, Elon got on the board in the third. Kyle Jackson drew a one-out walk and headed to third on a Ty Adcock double. Both runners then came in when Platt doubled to the gap in right-center.

Liberty got those two runs back in the last of the third. With one out, Allen walked and scored on an Artis triple. Artis then scored on a Trey McDyre sacrifice fly to right to make it an 8-2 contest.

The Flames added four more in the fifth to stretch the lead to 12-2 before Elon cut in to the lead in the sixth. Back-to-back walks to Platt and Will Nance started the inning. Shumate then drove in one with a double to left-center before two more walks, including a bases-loaded free pass to Zach Evers cut it to 12-4. A double play ball scored a third run in the frame.

Liberty also scored once in the sixth and three times in the seventh.

The Phoenix got its final run in the ninth on Ryne Ogren’s fourth home run of the season.

On Deck: Elon will return home for its final six games of the regular season. The Phoenix will wrap up CAA play with a three-game series with UNCW this weekend. The set is slated to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 12.
