Elon Places Two on IWLCA All-South Region WLAX Second Team

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Elon University women’s lacrosse had two players named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-South Region Second Team on Friday afternoon, marking the first time in program history Elon is represented among the region’s best.

Stephanie Asher and Rachel Ramirez, who were both named to the watch list for the Tewaaraton Trophy back in March, end the year among those selected as Second Team honorees after helping the Phoenix to a team record 13 wins thus far. Asher’s 58 goals this season leads the CAA and is the 18th-most in the country. Last month, she broke her program records for most points and goals in a season and her 140 career goals puts her 23rd among active players nationally. In the cage, Ramirez leads the conference in saves and ground balls and is third in goals against average. Her 144 stops this year ranks 41st nationally. With 64 ground balls, it averages out to 3.26 per game, which is 16th-best in the country.

Last week, both Asher and Ramirez were named First Team All-CAA for the second consecutive season and both were tabbed as CAA All-Tournament honorees. Asher and Ramirez have now been members of the postseason All-CAA teams each of Elon’s three years in the conference. Back in 2015, both were named Second Team All-CAA honorees.

In all, 10 CAA players were recognized Friday on IWLCA All-Region teams. Only Elon and Towson had multiple players named to the All-Region teams. Towson had five players honored between the All-Mid Atlantic Region teams.

Elon makes its NCAA Tournament debut Friday afternoon, May 12, at 5 p.m. when it battles No. 13 Virginia in Chapel Hill, N.C. Friday’s action from Fetzer field can be seen live on ESPN3 on the WatchESPN.com platform.
