Details still coming in and we are still looking for more, but we have lost former local high school basketball coach, Fernando Cole….Coach Cole was part of the ‘heart and soul’ of the local coaching fabric for many years….

Not a real big man, but a man with a big heart and he loved helping kids….Wore glasses and a bit small/lean in stature, but a big part of the high school and AAU basketball scene for many years…

For most of his time spent on the high school scene here locally, Coach Cole worked with boy’s basketball teams at
High Point Central, Northeast Guilford, Page, Grimsley, Northern Guilford and may have spent some time at Smith…

I’m thinking Coach Cole may have had a son or daughter that played basketball at Grimsley…Thinking he was connected with Coach Corbett, Coach Peace, maybe Coach Kent, Coach Chambers, Coach Hunter, Coach Frye, Coach Hauser and others…

Coach Cole also worked coaching on the local AAU level for many years….Always seemed fairly easy-going and mild-mannered, but he knew the game and he had a passion for coaching basketball….

I have the name Jonette Cole on my brain, but not sure if Coach Cole was connected to her…I’m thinking Jonette Cole is the former president at Bennett College….

Fernando Cole was a good one and from my time knowing him, all he really seemed to care about was doing all he could to make the game of basketball better, for the kids that play it….

Working on more details on the death of Fernando Cole and if you any info or background, please send it out way and if you can get in touch with Stan K, send the news his way…

*****Fernando Cole AKA Moon passed away yesterday/Sunday May 14, 2017…..*****
RIP Fernando Cole

Still hard to believe that Coach Cole has passed.

He was a tremendous man who after you first met him, you would never forget him. Coach Cole was on both staffs for the teams that Reggie Peace coached in the State Championship game (Smith 95′ and Lee Senior 03′).

I was very fortunate to meet him when we worked with the NC Gaters prior to Vic Sapp passing. I got to know him well and can say that he always made me laugh. Coach Cole would tell you like it is, give great advice, and give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it.

Very proud to have known him and hope that he rests in power forever.

Fernando has been a part of our family-and we, a part of his, for about 25 years. You couldn’t meet a nicer guy nor a better friend. Arrangements have been made for Monday, May 21, 2017 at St. Matthews UMC 600 E Florida St. Greensboro NC 27406. Family visitation will begin at 12:00 noon and the funeral at 12:30.

A great loss of a great coach and an even better man. He will be missed but always remembered. Please keep April (daughter) & Cole (grandson) in your prayers.

    Reggie & Jeanette Peace
