Summer Collegiate Baseball:Kernersville Bulldogs open season with four key wins over weekend

The Kernersville Bulldogs opened their 2017 Carolina Virginia Collegiate League season with four key league wins.

On Saturday GTCC Tanner Routh dominated hurling five shutout inning fanning eight and allowing only three hits in picking up the win in his first action of the year. South Carolina Signee Noah Campbell scored two runs and stole 3 bases in the 3-2 win over the Carolina Pirates..

In game two pitching also dominated as NCA&T righty Jason Jenkins picked up his first win of the year as he hurled five innings of one hit baseball recording 7 strikeouts.

GTCC’s Chris Kernen, two scoreless innings on the mound, Ryan Caveness and Tyler Price with rbi’s paced the Bulldogs in the 6-0 win On Sunday… Seth Hardin former Providence Grove star hurled four outstanding innings fanning eight, and Mathew Hailey of East Forsyth with four K’s picked up the win in a 4-2 win over the Fuquay Varina Twins. HP Christian’s Timmy Fischvogt paced the offense with a 2-2 game including an rbi double.

In game two it was GTCC’s Tyler Price with 2-3 and three rbi day and Michael Garvey with a 2-4 day including an rbi triple that paced the Bulldogs’ 10-5 victory.

Bulldogs are off until they open the Coastal Plain League season Saturday night with an encounter with the Thomasville Hi Toms at 7PM.
