Elon’s Johansen Qualifies for Quarterfinals at NCAA Track & Field Prelims

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Kimberly Johansen of the Elon University women’s track and field team extended her stay at the NCAA East Preliminaries after qualifying for the quarterfinal round in the 1,500-meters on Thursday, May 25, at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

Johansen, who entered the meet at No. 39 in the regional rankings in the 1,500-meters, finished 22nd overall in the event with her time of 4:23.62. The Chelmsford, England, native was able to redeem herself from last year’s performance at the East Prelims, where she just missed qualifying for the quarterfinals by one spot.

Johansen will now compete on Saturday, May 27, in the quarterfinal round with an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet in Eugene, Ore. A total of 24 athletes qualified for the quarterfinal round in the 1,500-meters with the top-12 advancing to the NCAA Championships.

Elon continues its run at the NCAA East Preliminaries with redshirt junior Bre’anna Warren and junior Bryanna Hames competing in the discus throw tomorrow, May 26. The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
