Eugene Bound! Elon Track and Field’s Hames Advances to NCAA Championships

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Bryanna Hames of the Elon University women’s track and field team became the first member of the program to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships after finishing in the top-12 in the discus at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday, May 26, at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

After entering the meet ranked No. 22 in the East Region in the discus throw, Hames doubled her improvement in the standings and was 11th overall with a new personal-record throw of 174’ 6” (53.20m) breaking her own school-record in the event for the fourth time this season. The Charlotte, N.C., native will continue her season and compete next at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 7-10 in Eugene, Ore.

Teammate Bre’anna Warren also competed for the Phoenix in the discus in her first-ever NCAA East Preliminary meet. The Greensboro, N.C., native finished the event in 42nd with her best throw of 146’ 10” (44.77m).

The Phoenix concludes its stay at the NCAA East Prelims tomorrow, May 27, as senior Kimberly Johansen will also look to advance to the NCAA Championships in the quarterfinal round of the 1,500-meters. That race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
