More to follow here…..
Large crowd on hand for the game on Saturday afternoon and Topsail must had close to 250 fans out there today/Saturday….The return of Josh Pike was one of those, “man I can’t believe it moments”….Pike had been on the shelf for nearly 6 weeks and when hit the mound the Northern crowd came to their feet….If Pike is ready for a start next week vs. Crest, he might be the missing mound piece for Northern in a Three-Game Series….Joe Millwee did a solid job today, but with Pike back and at least at 75% of his old velocity, he can be a difference maker for Northern vs. Crest….Cotter still #1, JC Ouzts #2 and you have Pike ready as #3….Pike had his curve ball working today, but his velocity was not at peak level…

Crest will be a pure underdog and they have already knocked off defending 3-A Champs, Marvin Ridge….JT Jarrett is a super table-setter for Northern and he will need to on his game again next weekend at N.C. State…Kind of interesting that Jarrett, Cotter and Pike are all committed to attend N.C. State and the games will be at the Wolfpack’s home field next weekend….

Cotter, Ouzts and Pike are three very strong throwers and they can control a baseball game….The key element is what they have backing them up with Logan King, receiving…The Nighthawks’ catcher is the glue that holds this pitching staff together…King makes calls and keeps his defense on their toes and he knows every move that his pitchers will make, before they make it, unless they get their signs crossed up and that might happen about once or twice a year…

Northern Guilford is right where everyone expected them to be, with 12 seniors on the roster and with the three key senior pitchers, this was supposed to be their year and as their rolls toward Raleigh, this had to be their year…

Northern Guilford is right where they had to be and to get there it was not easy….Easy to sit back and look at the Nighthawks and say if they win it all they have fallen short, but in reality, getting there is way more than half the battle and they have won 29 battles on the season and now it is time to “Win the War”, as they get ready to face Crest next Friday…..

Best of Three and time for NG to get the victory….Guilford County representative going for the Gold, in Raleigh…

A look at the NCHSAA Playoff Road that got Northern to Raleigh to face Crest in the finals…

7-5 Win over Wilson Fike
2-1 Win in 9 Innings over Corinth Holders
2-0 Win over Rockingham County
6-3 Win over Northwood and trailed 3-0 early in that game…
3-1 Win over Topsail
3-2 Loss to Topsail, at Topsail
6-5 Win over Topsail to claim the NCHASS 3-A East Regional Title…..
*****A tough path to the Finals, but one that has been very fulfilling for the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…*****
