Elon’s Johansen Sets New Personal-Record at NCAA Track & Field East Preliminaries

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Kimberly Johansen set a new personal and school-record in the 1,500-meters, capping her remarkable career with the Elon University women’s track and field team on the final day at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Saturday, May 27, at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex.

RESULTS

Johansen clocked a time of 4:18.42 in the quarterfinal round of the 1,500-meters. After entering the meet ranked No. 39 in the event in the East Region, the Chelmsford, England, native finished 15th overall in the race – just three spots shy of qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

One of the most successful distance runners in school history, Johansen leaves Elon with seven program records between cross country, indoor and outdoor competition. She also was a four-time conference champion, a two-time All-Region performer in cross country and a three-time qualifier at the NCAA Preliminary meet.

Johansen’s time was a near four-second improvement over her previous personal-best of 4:22.82 that she set in 2015. She retires with the school records in the outdoor 800 and 1,500-meters and the indoor 800 and 1,000-meters along with the one-mile run. She also sits atop the Phoenix’s cross country performance lists in the 5K and 6K races.
