HPU Unveils 2017 Cross Country Schedule

HIGH POINT, N.C. — The 2017 High Point University men’s and women’s cross country schedules have been announced by HPU men’s head coach Mike Esposito and women’s head coach Remy Tamer.

“Our schedule features a good variety of courses,” Esposito said. “We will get to see the conference course at Liberty, which they are building as we speak, early on in the season. Our women will face several national powers at Panorama Farms, while hosting the VertCross will give our student-athletes a chance to compete close to home at a meet that is generating a lot of interest.”

The Panthers will open their season at the Phoenix Invite, hosted by Elon, on Sept. 2 in Elon, N.C.

Two weeks later, High Point will then compete at the Big South Preview in Sept. 16 in Lynchburg, Va.

The third meet of the season will be the only time the Panther squads will split up, as the women will travel to Earlysville, Va., Sept. 23 for the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational, while the men will be in competition at the Upstate Invite on Sept. 30 in Spartanburg, S.C.

High Point will host the second-annual HPU VertCross Invitational on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville. The Panthers will once again host over 20 teams.

The VertCross will be the final tuneup for the Panthers ahead of the Big South Championships, to be held in Lynchburg, Va., Oct. 28.

Virginia will host the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va., on Nov. 10.

The HPU women finished second at the Big South Championships in 2016 and return three of the scoring five, including rising junior Keaton Case and rising sophomores Zoe Geis and Kylie Hennessey.

High Point’s men placed fourth at the conference meet and return two of the scoring five, including rising juniors Alejandro Juan Torres and Patrick Van Der Cruyssen.
