Final:Greensboro Grasshoppers 4, Asheville Tourists 3
WP:Jared Lakind(1-0)/LP:Salvador Justo(0-1)/SV:Chad Smith(5)
Hoppers’ Line-4-8-4
Tourists’ Line-3-8-0
Grasshoppers’ record(52-46/15-15)…Tourists’ record(49-50/20-12)….
The Hoppers were able to work around their 4 errors and all the errors were doing, were just giving more outs/extra outs and more chances to the Asheville Tourists….Error takes away a chance at a double-play, the errors open the door and keep the inning going and the Tourists tie the game and then move ahead and nearly stole this game, because they had too many chances, to head, or come home….
Asheville tied the game at 2-2 and Asheville had a chance to win the game at 3-2, due to the Hoppers’ costly errors….But the team’s offensive stability and also in true “turn-about is fair play and let’s see if we can steal one”, a Wild Pitch won the game for Grasshoppers….Hoppers score two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and take what was a 3-2 Asheville lead, and turn that into a 4-3 win….
Jared Lakind(WP) and Chad Smith(SV) limit the damage late in the game. with their work on the hill….
In the earlier parts of the game, every time the Hoppers would grab a lead, the Hoppers would commit an error and give Asheville a chance to re-take the game…..
Final shows 4-3(GSO) and with two hits each from Brian Miller, Walker Olis and Jarrett Rindflesh, the Hoppers had enough offense to claim the win/victory…..
Rindflesh with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, on the day….We may have to go with Rindflesh(C) as our Player of the Game….He had a busy day behind the plate and a busy day at the plate as well…..There was one play when the throw came in from Brian Miller in CF and Rindflesh was ready to grab the ball and make a tag at the plate and the runner would have been gone, but Rindflesh could not handle the throw cleanly, as the ASHE runner and the ball got to the plate at the very same time….Bang-bang play….
Rindflesh was also called for an catcher’s obstruction on Asheville and the Tourists’ batter/runner was awarded the base on what would have been a double play, getting the Hoppers out of an inning, but the game went on and Rindflesh was at third as a base runner and playing off the bag and ready to come home and he was moving and Rony Cabrera needed to make contact at the plate, but the Hoppers got no BC(bat contact) from RC(Rony Cabrera) and Rindflesh gets thrown out trying to get back to third base…..As you can see, the young man from Reston, Virginia(Rindflesh) was a busy Hopper on this Tuesday, but he continued to handle it all well and made major contributions to his team’s victory/win…..
Solid effort today too from the Hoppers’s starting pitcher Ethan Clark, who gave up 1 run on 3 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4 Tourists, in five innings of work and the one run Clark gave up was a leadoff home run to Asheville’s Manny Melendez to being the game…..
Nice to see the team get win and back up the 3-2 victory in 12 Innings, on Monday night….
