GREENSBORO, N.C. – 2016 Ryder Cup hero and 2009 Wyndham Championship winner Ryan Moore leads a fivesome of former winners that have joined the 2017 Wyndham Championship field, the tournament announced today. The 78th annual Wyndham Championship begins Monday at Sedgefield Country Club.

These players join world No. 8 Henrik Stenson, FedExCup No. 9 Kevin Kisner, World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, 2018 United States Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk, three-time Wyndham winner Davis Love III, 2011 Wyndham winner Webb Simpson and defending champion Si Woo Kim, Kyle Stanley, Charles Howell III, former FedExCup champions Bill Haas and Billy Horschel, former world No. 1 Luke Donald and Major championship winners Jason Dufner, Padraig Harrington, Keegan Bradley, Lucas Glover, Graeme McDowell, Stewart Cink and Retief Goosen in the field.

Moore, who won the Sam Snead Cup following a three-way playoff in 2009 for his maiden PGA TOUR victory, defeated Lee Westwood in singles matches to claim the clinching point in the United States’ 17-11 Ryder Cup victory last fall. After pushing Rory McIlroy to four playoff holes at last year’s TOUR Championship, Moore’s runner-up finish was the deciding factor in captain Davis Love III’s decision to make Moore his final captain’s pick for Team USA. Moore has five PGA TOUR victories to his credit; the most recent was last year’s John Deere Classic. He will make his 10th Wyndham Championship start next week. The Tacoma, Wash., native who lives in Las Vegas is 47th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 72nd in the FedExCup point standings.

South Korean superstar K.J. Choi, who won the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event in 2005, will also make his 10th Wyndham Championship appearance next week. Choi has eight PGA TOUR victories and nine international wins to his credit. When Si Woo Kim claimed his first PGA TOUR victory in last year’s Wyndham Championship, he mentioned Choi, arguably the most successful professional golfer in Korean history, as one of his heroes. After his 2005 victory here, Choi donated $90,000, 10 percent of his winner’s check, to the Greensboro Korean Presbyterian Church he attended while in town. Following his win at the 2011 PLAYERS Championship, he donated $200,000 to help victims of the tornados that ravaged the southeastern United States in April of that year.

Also playing next week’s Wyndham Championship are 2008 winner, NC State University alumnus and Grimsley High School alumnus Carl Pettersson, 2014 winner, Colombian superstar Camilo Villegas and 2010 winner Arjun Atwal, the first native of India to win a PGA TOUR event. These players join defending champion Kim, Love and Simpson making eight former Wyndham winners in the field.
