Elon’s Garcia Earns CAA Volleyball Rookie of the Week Award

RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman setter Kodi Garcia of Elon University volleyball has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon, Aug. 28. The Tomball, Texas, native had a stellar start to her collegiate campaign at the Charlotte Invitational, helping the Phoenix to a 2-1 start to the season.

Across the three matches, Garcia amassed 123 assists to average 10.25 per set. She also finished opening weekend with 26 digs. In Elon’s two wins, Garcia recorded double-doubles with 45 assists and 10 digs on Friday, Aug. 25, against Southern Utah and 50 assists and 14 digs Saturday, Aug. 26, against Charlotte.

Other CAA awards this week were handed out to Offensive Player of the Week Lauren Freed of College of Charleston and Anna Holehouse of Towson for Defensive Player of the Week.

Elon returns to action Tuesday night, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. when it hosts North Carolina A&T inside Alumni Gym. The season marks the start of the 46th and final home volleyball season inside Alumni Gym with the program transitioning to Schar Center in 2018.
