Southeast Guilford upset Northwest Guilford for the second straight season and as we asked earlier in the week, was this a Falcon upset, or should they have been favored to beat the Vikings again this season?????
28-13 SEG over NWG, with that score being by the GCS/Guilford County School…..
Northern Guilford got a much-needed win over Statesville and the Smith Golden Eagles picked up their first win of 2017, with a victory over HP Andrews…

I spoke with Dennis White and Kris Walser, from our GreensboroSports Radio broadcast team and Kris said both Page and Dudley went on long time-consuming drives in the second half, but neither team, Dudley nor Page, could crack the end zone, in the second half….
There were some penalties that kept the teams out of the end zone and Dennis told me that he felt Dudley should have won this game by a wider margin and the Panthers were not playing their best football tonight….Dennis also said that the Page defense had a great game and game-plan and that Page came to Tarpley Stadium, ready to play defense this evening….Dennis also said he was impressed with Assad Alston on offense for Page and that Sincere Davis, the Page RB, had a solid game…Looks like Alston scored two TD’s and he put on some flashy moves out there on this night….
Kris Walser said Dudley QB Gerald Simpson saw the toughest defense tonight, that he has seen all season, and Gee Simpson had to leave the game for a few plays and Dudley brought on backup QB Richard ‘Quad’ Monroe to run the show/offense….3 TD passes by Simpson and 167 yards through the air tonight/Thursday….
Kris said it was one of the best football games that he has witnessed, since he started calling games for GreensboroSports.com….The game appears to have been in doubt until the end, with the first half ending, the 19-14 score, standing up until the “Thursday Night Finish”…..Big Dudley defensive stop, halting a Page Pirate drive at the the Panthers’ three-yard line in the 3rd Quarter…..
Dennis White said that Dudley should not make any Labor Day Monday holiday plans because Coach Steven Davis will probably have his Panthers out there on Lincoln Street working overtime on Monday, after what some Panther fans might consider a sub-par performance tonight….
Dudley has a huge game coming up next Friday night at Tarpley Stadium, with 4-A and state-wide power, the Durham Hillside Hornets coming to town….
The Page Pirates will travel to meet the Eastern Wildcats next Friday night….Dudley now at (3-0) and the #1 ranked 3-A team in the state and Page at (2-1) and among the Top 25 ranked 4-A teams in the state….
Page got a lot of people’s attention tonight and Dudley has fans’ attention, but the fans are feeling that Dudley could have played better tonight….Page will tell you that they had a lot to do with the way Dudley was forced to play tonight, but in the end, the Dudley Panthers got what they came out for, the WIN…..
Dennis White told me Gee Simpson hooked up with Nigel Fitzgerald on a something like an 80-yard pass play early in the game for a TD and Dennis said it was a thing of beauty….Fitzgerald scored on another catch and run, and Dudley sure was looking good with Fitzgerald finding paydirt with help from Simpson tonight…WFMY NEWS 2 Sports had D.J. Crossen scoring, but Dennis said it was Fitzgerald/Nigel and Dennis was right….WFMY was going by the #23 number and Fitzgerald was wearing #23, Ronald Galliard’s number tonight……
Have not seen the young(sophomore) Panther kicker, but I hear he is a good one and Page has one of the best kickers in the state, in Thomas Murray…..
How about those SEG Falcons, are they for real, because that was a real big win they got tonight over the Northwest Guilford Vikings….

There you go, I did not make it to the Thursday night game, but we did give it a pretty good shake tonight….
SEG defense looking pretty good. I had said that they shouldn’t give up a lot of points to NW. You take away Tre being Tre on a kickoff return, and an end of the game score with other kids getting some play time, and Falcons didn’t allow NW anything all night. Offense came around as well tonight.
Many games still ahead but tonight was a good night for the Falcons.
JV: Grimsley 22 – Eastern Guilford 20
So once again NW is off the radar. If NW can’t beat SE, then they absolutely can’t beat Reidsville, Page or West Forsyth. At this point, NW can only go 6-4 at best but will likely go 5-5. New unproven coach that only works with the offense (which only scored 7 pts late), a defense that’s too small in the secondary and too slow on the line, and from what I have heard poor communication between the coaches. NW has some of the best potential college talent ever yet they will fly under the radar all year.
I Think its about time we start showing some respect towards that SW JV football program. They are sitting at 29-13 dating back 5 years when the program finished the year at 3-7 to three winning seasons, including and undefeated season. Starting out 2-0 this year with a combined score of 104-26 those two games. This could be a special year for that group.
Much respect to those Falcons, they came out ready to play and were just the better team. Hopefully that wakes our guys up and gives them a spark for the rest of the season. Good Luck to you guys!
“What is happening NW”, I’m not even going address the downplaying of SE as a team. Either way, NW has some talented kids, but don’t overplay it. “best potential college talent ever”……..that is a reach. I will say this though, Tre Truner is as good as advertised. Maybe better and I have seen A LOT of top National talent this year. I saw him play last year and he was good, but this year he will probably EASILY be the best offensive player on the field in every game that he plays. He has size, speed, and more importantly skill. Hopefully SE can get a win in the JV game on Monday to make it a sweep for 2017.

Tre you’re a stud athlete who is dangerous in the open field. You guys will be fine. We were just able to get a lot of pressure on your QB.
My son Ryan said you were a classy guy on the field and he enjoyed ” TALKING ” with you during the game.
“Cowboy 1”, the SW JV team is good. They are a 10th grade heavy team with some excellent freshmen in the bunch and the bunch is experienced. My oldest son has either played with or against quite a few of them, that is how I know. Their real test will be against Dudley. From what I’ve heard they have a running back that is hard to stop.

NW will be fine, they just need to get Tre and Cam Cloud the ball behind 71. He was knocking down Falcons all night.
NW is a 1 or 2 trick pony. One receive deep and a couple of RB’s. True they are too small and slow to stop Page, Reidsville and West Forsyth but I seriously doubt if they will be within 7 pts of Northern. If the Ragsdale RB gets into the secondary, NW is too small to deal with him which may mean another lost. NW is more likely to finish 4-6.
Tre Turner and Northwest Guilford might get knocked down, but they will get back up and come at their opponents hard and I see Tre doing good things down the road…
He will do good things and it doesn’t have to be on the football field, he will do good things in life and he really seems to appreciate the support he gets from his coaches, family and friends…
