College Men’s Golf Results – Evens, Guilford Lead After First Round of Transylvania Invite

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Guilford College sophomore Zachary Evens shot a five-under-par 67 to help the Quakers to a two-shot lead after Saturday’s opening round of the Transylvania Fall Invitational. Evens shares the top spot on the 82-man leaderboard with Otterbein College’s Austin Wells.

Guilford, ranked fourth in the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA Division III Coaches’ Poll, had four golfers shoot par or better in the 14-team, 36-hole tournament. The Quakers shot six-under 282 as a team and hold a two-shot edge over Ohio Wesleyan University. Defending tournament titlist Greensboro College and defending NCAA Division III champion Wittenberg University share third place after shooting 292 Saturday.

Guilford sophomore Kell Graham is in a three-way share of 11th place following an opening round of 71. Teammates Josh Hill and Harrison Frye both shot an even-par 72 and are in a group of six sharing 16th place. Rookie Addison Manring made his college debut with a 76, as did classmate Jack Lee, who is playing as an individual.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers conclude play Sunday at the Big Blue Course of the University of Kentucky Club.
