Cowboys cruise past Bison 27-0

With all the weather issues and rescheduling of games for Guilford County, Senior Quarterback/Defensive Back of Southwest Guilford, and son of head coach Eric Rainey, Jaren Rainey, did not allow those obstacles to affect his final season as a Cowboy. Jaren Rainey managed to compile a score (that actually counted) for Southwest Guilford in the fourth quarter, which in turn helped the Cowboys seal the victory against the struggly Bison. The addition of Tyree Graham wasn’t so bad either, as he pummeled through the Bison defense with 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Coach Rainey had nothing but praise for the junior running back and mentioned that Graham had put in a lot of work during the summer to get to where he is at right now.

Although there was a total of 20 penalties for both teams, and the Cowboys had two scores called back because of mental mistakes, Southwest Guilford still managed to compile 346 yards of offense and rush through that Bison defense in a simplistic manner. It was a tough night for Curt Irvin as he could not get it going. The Cowboys defense, once again, stood out against a team that’s known to be dangerous for their special backs such as Deandre McBride and Curt Ervin. The Cowboys were able to put the pressure needed on the Bison in order to help the offense gain momentum. It was Jaren Rainey’s first game back, and he wanted to put on a show for all Cowboys fans.

With the Cowboys winning against High Point Central, that puts them at 2-0 against teams in Guilford County. High Point Central wasn’t a team in which you could roll over against. The Bison have their fair share of talent that delivers points and yardage necessary to win. The Cowboys defense, for the third consecutive week, have been able to come up with big plays. Leading the way is linebacker John Oxce. He has 3+ sacks and is already over 10 tackles for loss, and it’s only three games into the season. If the defense for the Cowboys keep applying pressure to opponent offenses, and if Jaren Rainey continues to be the leader he truly is for the team, they may have a pretty good chance come playoff time.
