HPU Men’s Basketball Releases Big South Schedule

HIGH POINT, N.C. — The High Point University men’s basketball team has released the 2017-18 Big South schedule Thursday, which will include nine games at the Millis Center.

High Point will look to capture its fifth Big South regular season title in six years. The Panthers return four starters from the squad that finished fifth in 2016-17 with a 9-9 record in the Big South and 15-16 overall. HPU welcomes six newcomers to the court, including three transfers and three freshmen.

The Panthers will open the conference slate at 2017 Big South Champion Winthrop on Dec. 30. Last year, the Purple & White won an 83-80 overtime thriller in Rock Hill, S.C.

High Point has its conference home opener against UNC Asheville on Jan. 3 before hosting Charleston Southern on Jan. 6.

The Panthers travel to Gardner-Webb (Jan. 9) and Campbell (Jan. 12) before hosting Presbyterian on Jan. 15 and Liberty on Jan. 18.

A trip to Longwood awaits HPU on Jan. 21 before they host Radford at the Millis Center on Jan. 24.

High Point makes the return trips to UNC Asheville on Jan. 27 and Charleston Southern on Feb. 1, before hosting Campbell on Feb. 3 as part of the University’s Family Weekend.

Away games at Radford (Feb. 7) and Presbyterian (Feb. 15) sandwich the home contest against Winthrop on Feb. 10.

HPU closes its regular season home schedule with games against Gardner-Webb (Feb. 18) and Longwood (Feb. 22), while the Panthers will close the regular season at Liberty on Feb. 24.

The first round of the Big South Championship will be held on Feb. 27 with the seventh and eighth seeds hosting the 10th and ninth seeds, respectively. The tournament then moves to the No. 1 seed’s home floor for the quarterfinals and semifinals March 1-2. The Big South Championship final will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on March 4.

Game times and games to be broadcast on television will be announced at a later date.
