FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Gerry Madden scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute as Methodist University edged Guilford College, 2-1, on Wednesday night. The Monarchs improved to 2-2-1 and the Quakers fell to 0-6.
Methodist’s Zvi Ferrari tallied in the 24th minute. He scored off a rebounded save by Zach Van Kampen.
Ricky Aguilar tied the score at 1-1 in the 45th minute. Aguilar took the ball at edge of the box and fired his shot to the bottom right of the goal. The score remained 1-1 at halftime.
Madden scored for the Monarchs in the 55:23 mark. He played a loose ball in box and fired a shot past Van Kampen.
Methodist led in shots (25-5) and corner kicks (11-1). Van Kampen had eight saves for the Quakers.
Guilford returns to action on Saturday (9/16) night at John Wesley University. Game time is 7 p.m.
