Elon’s Baliatico Earns CAA WSOC Player of the Week Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women’s soccer junior forward Tori Baliatico was named the CAA Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, Sept. 18, by the conference after two standout performances in Elon’s final two non-conference matches over the weekend.

Balitatico earned her first-career CAA weekly honor after scoring three goals for six total points during two road contests at UNC Asheville and Davidson. On Thursday night against the Bulldogs, the Scotch Plains, N.J., native recorded her second career two-goal performance scoring twice in the first half to help the Phoenix earn a 2-1 victory. Baliatico then scored in a 2-0 victory at Davidson on Sunday, scoring in the 54th minute to secure Elon’s win.

The honor is the second CAA Player of the Week award for a Phoenix this season as Meredith Christopher took the honor in the first week of the season on Aug. 21. Baliatico is also Elon’s third player overall to earn a CAA weekly honor this season as Reena Wichmann collected CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 11.

Other awards handed out Monday included Genevieve Henderson of College of Charleston taking Defensive Player of the Week and Molly McGarry of UNCW earning Rookie of the Week.

Elon will look continue its current four-match win streak on Thursday night as the Phoenix opens conference play hosting UNCW at Rudd Field on Latin Night. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. with pregame festivities starting at 6 p.m.
