College Volleyball Final – William Peace 3, Guilford 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mya Parks and Alyssa Welch put away 15 kills apiece in William Peace University’s 3-1 volleyball win at Guilford College Wednesday night. The Pacers (4-9) rallied from a 25-23 opening-set loss and won the next three sets, 25-23, 25-23, 25-14, to avenge a loss earlier this season to the Quakers (7-4).

The Pacers took advantage of 31 Guilford hitting errors and 10 Quakers’ serving errors in the match. Guilford rallied from an 18-13 first-set deficit to score the opening-game win and threatened in the next two sets but was often stymied by untimely miscues. The Pacers improved their hitting in each set, capped by just four hitting errors and a .263 team attack percentage in the final game.

Parks added 20 digs to share team-high honors with setter Liana Solomon. Solomon also set up 41 assists and was in on two of William Peace’s six team blocks. Lindsay Alford put down 11 kills on .333 hitting and libero Carson Williams played a strong match with 17 digs on the back row.

The loss spoiled a career night for Guilford sophomore Morgan Tompkins, who led all students with 17 kills on .333 hitting. She also picked up 18 digs and served one of the Quakers’ two aces. Jessica Sheek added 11 kills and Casey Davis had 10. Davis also had 15 digs, 10 fewer than teammate and match leader McKinley Durham. Guilford setter Tina Eucker had 51 assists, three kills, and three blocks.
