ROTARY PRESENTS FOURTH GREENSBORO ROTARY / BOB SAWYER AWARD FOR 2017 SEASON GUILFORD COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Greensboro, NC – The Rotary Club of Greensboro has selected the fourth winner of the 2017 Greensboro Rotary / Sawyer Guilford County Football Player of the Week. The award will be presented at the Rotary Meeting on Wednesday, September 27, at 12:40 pm. The meeting takes place at the Terrace at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

Winner: Jaren Rainey
Coach: Eric Rainey
School: Southwest Guilford High School
Jersey Number: 11
Position: QB, DB, WR

Southwest Guilford against Northwest Guilford (30-23)

Jaren Rainey impacted the 30-23 win over Northwest Guilford in a few different roles. The ECU- commit led all rushers with 104 yards on 12 carries and 2 Touchdowns. He passed for 47 yards on 8 of 18 attempts. Jaren had a key 40-yard reception late in the game that led to the Cowboys’ final score of the night, however Jaren’s biggest impact on the game came on the other side of the ball where he shadowed the explosive Tre Turner limiting Tre’s output to only one score and just a handful of completions.

In the words of his coach (who is also his father): “I have the best job in the world by having a front row seat coaching my son who just happens to be a very special student athlete. Jaren continues to lead by example and make being a great teammate a priority. Each game this year will be bittersweet knowing that the player/coach relationship that has been a big part of our lives will soon be ending, but we are both excited about what his future holds.”
