Huge Rushing Numbers Earn Elon’s Summers CAA Football Recognition

RICHMOND, Va. – After rushing for a career-high 294 yards on 40 carries to help lead the Elon University football team to a 36-33 victory over the sixth-ranked Richmond Spiders, junior running back Malcolm Summers was honored as the CAA Football co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 25.

He shared this week’s honor with New Hampshire quarterback Trevor Knight.

Summers’ performance was one for the record books as his 294 rushing yards rank 10th in CAA Football history and were the most by any player at the FCS level this season. His 40 carries were eight shy of an Elon single-game record, while he was 15 yards short of the program record for rushing yards in a game. Summers became the first Elon back to rush for at least 100 yards in back-to-back games since 2009 and posted the program’s first 200-yard game since 2002.

Currently, Summers ranks third nationally with 503 rushing yards and seventh with 125.8 rushing yards per game.

Summers and the Phoenix (3-1) will be back in action at Rhodes Stadium on Saturday to host the Albany Great Danes (3-1) at 2 p.m. Tickets are still available at elonphoenix.com or by calling 336-278-6750.
