Elon’s Lukes Places Third, Phoenix Takes Fifth at Men’s Golf Patriot Intercollegiate

CENTREVILLE, Va. – Freshman Quade Lukes shot one-under par over the final two rounds to earn his first-career top-three finish and the Elon University men’s golf team placed fifth in its first tournament of the fall season at the Patriot Intercollegiate on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Chantilly National Golf & Country Club.

FINAL RESULTS

“It’s nice to finally get on the road and compete in a golf tournament,” said head coach Don Hill. “The first four weeks of the season have been a bit uneven with injuries and having to reschedule our first tournament. I’m extremely proud of the resiliency we showed in this tournament, battling back after the first round. The team really believes in one another and have high expectations this year.”

HIGHLIGHTS
Lukes had an impressive collegiate debut, finishing at one-under par (72-69-74–215) for the tournament. His performance included a three under-par 69 in the second round, helping him earn his first-career top-three finish. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native made 10 birdies during the tournament, including six over the final two rounds.

“What a great way to start your college golf career,” added Hill. “Quade [Lukes] has been chomping at the bit for some time to play college golf. He experienced an injury his senior year of high school and has been working tirelessly to put himself in this position. He will learn a lot from this event being in the hunt and having an opportunity to win a tournament down the stretch.”

William Harwood also had a strong finish to the tournament for the Phoenix, shooting just one-over par over the final 36 holes, draining four birdies, and finished tied for 28th overall.

Jake Leavitt earned his 11th-career top-25 finish shooting five-over par for the tournament and placing in a tie for 18th individually.

Additionally for the Phoenix, Charlie May tied for 50th individually, Dustin Blank made his collegiate debut as an individual for Elon placing in a tie for 57th, and Philip Loeb finished tied for 82nd at the Patriot Intercollegiate.

“We have a quick turnaround before we go to Western Carolina this weekend,” Hill said. “But first, we need to come home, rest, and get some school work done.”

UP NEXT
The Phoenix returns to the links next week, Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 2-3, to compete in the Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
