College Volleyball Final – Guilford 3, Randolph 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Casey Davis put away a match-high 11 kills on .308 hitting a helped Guilford College past Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph College, 25-21, 25-12, 25-19, Wednesday night.

Davis’ fifth kill clinched the opening set, which proved the closest in the 74-minute contest. The teams combined for 11 ties and five lead changes in the first set. A Christian Ritter kill broke a 21-21 tie and the sophomore moved to the back line where she served up the next three points, including one of her two service aces in the match.

Six Randolph hitting errors and a .000 team attack percentage helped the Quakers race to a 21-12 victory in the second set. The third set appeared on a similar course before Randolph reeled off five straight points to get within 20-19. A Morgan Tompkins putaway stopped the run and returned serve to the Quakers, who scored the next five points to clinch the win.

Davis added four service aces and eight digs to a solid all-around night. Ritter, Tompkins, and Sheek each contributed seven kills. Tina Eucker set up 35 assists and helped Guilford record its highest team hitting percentage (.269) of the season. Tompkins collected a team-high 13 digs.

Taylor Webb paced the Wildcats (4-10, 1-4 ODAC) with 10 kills on .286 hitting. She also had four assists and six digs. Autumn Troxell put down seven kills, but also had seven hitting errors. Kennedy Webb led all students with 15 digs.

Coach Emily Gann’s Quakers (8-5, 3-2 ODAC) visit league-rival Eastern Mennonite University Saturday (9/30) afternoon.
