FARMVILLE, Va. – Spell Carr scored a goal and an assist in the second half to lead Hampden-Sydney past visiting Guilford, 2-1, on Saturday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match. The Tigers moved to 7-2-1, 2-0. The Quakers fell to 1-10 and 1-1.
A.J. Hawkins opened the game’s scoring in the 43rd minute. His unassisted tally put the Quakers ahead 1-0. The match remained 1-0 at the break.
Carr tied the match at the 50:30 mark. Jacob Mann earned the assist on the scoring play.
Two minutes later, a Guilford red card resulted in the visitors playing with 10 men the rest of the way. The Tigers put the pressure on, and outshot GC 13-0 in the second half.
H-SC broke through in the 88th minute. Cole Burton recorded the game winning goal. Carr and Mann earned assists on the play.
For the game, Hampden-Sydney led in shots (18-4) and corner kicks (9-3).
Zach Van Kampen stopped six Tiger shots for Guilford.
The Quakers host ODAC foe Roanoke on Wednesday (10/4). Game time is 7 p.m.
