Elon Football Rises in the National Rankings

ELON, N.C. – Riding a four-game winning streak that includes three consecutive victories over ranked opponents, the Elon University football team continued its rise in the national polls on Monday, Oct. 2.

The Phoenix climbed from #23 to #18 in the STATS FCS Poll, and moved from the others receiving votes category to #23 in the FCS Coaches Poll this week following a 6-0 victory over #19 Albany. At 4-1, Elon is off to its best start since 2009.

Elon is one of seven CAA Football programs ranked among the STATS FCS top 25. Joining the Phoenix are #1 James Madison (5-0), #12 Villanova (3-2), #13 New Hampshire (4-1), #14 Richmond (2-2), #23 Stony Brook (4-1) and #24 Albany (3-2). Elon has defeated two of those in Richmond and Albany. Elon garnered 1,375 total points in the poll to rank just ahead of Weber State (4-1) and just behind The Citadel (3-1).

The conference features six league members inside the FCS Coaches Poll. Alongside Elon are #1 James Madison, #13 New Hampshire, #14 Richmond, #15 Villanova and #24 Stony Brook. The Phoenix earned 82 points in the coaches poll this week. The Phoenix rates only two points behind McNeese State (4-1).

Elon has earned its highest ranking since being rated 10th nationally in late September of 2010.

This weekend, the Phoenix will be back at home at Rhodes Stadium to face CAA Football rival William & Mary for Family Weekend. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
