Through his first 14 holes of the day, MacDougall carded 10 pars and three birdies before closing the first round with a -1 (71) – his eighth below-par round at HPU. The Calgary, Alberta native was unaffected by the late struggles of round one however, responding with a matching 71 and finished the day tied for 13th. Meanwhile, MacDougall tied for the best par-3 scoring average going -4 on the day.

“It’s not easy when you don’t live up to your expectations out of the gate,” head coach Brady Gregor said. “But with that comes our first opportunity of the year to see if we can respond as we aim to go out and fire our low round of the event. Individually, Brendan did exactly what you want out of your number one player. He has picked up right where he left off last spring and it’s awesome to see the growth he has made over the last year start to show in his results.”

As a team, the Panthers shot 302 (+14) on the first trip around the course and 305 (+17) in the second round at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

Sophomores RJ Bartolomucci, Alec Weary and senior Emile Menard all fired 77s (+5) in the first round. In the second round, Weary and Bartolomucci registered repeat performances as both finished the day tied for 59th at +10 (77-77, 144).

Meanwhile, Menard finds himself in 66th after day one (77-80, 157). Rounding out the lineup, freshman Ethan Willis opened his college career with an 86 and followed it with an 81.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Justin Lenzini carded a 79 (+7) in the first round and improved by one stroke in the second round (79-78, 157).

HPU is tied for 12th in a field led by NC State and North Carolina through 36 holes.

The Panthers will be back on the course for the third and final round of play at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Tuesday morning.
