Football Falls On Homecoming To Methodist

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Tolan Jones rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as the Greensboro College football team fell to Methodist University, 41-16.
Neither team was able to get their offense moving on the first few drives of the game, but Greensboro struck first with 9:22 left in the first quarter.
Following a Monarchs punt that gave the Pride the ball on their own 29-yard line, Jones scampered 71 yards around the left side of his offensive line for his first score of the afternoon to put Greensboro on top 6-0 following the missed point after attempt.
Greensboro then got the ball right back and put the ball in the hands of their speedster running back.
This time, Jones raced 69 yards around the right side to push the Greensboro advantage to 12-0 before David Chappelear connected with the extra point to push the lead to 13-0.
The Pride defense then began to push the Monarchs deep into their own territory before Samuel Hargrove recovered a Methodist fumble to give the ball right back to Greensboro on the Monarchs 11-yard line.
However, Greensboro was not able to punch the ball in the end zone again but Chappelear hit a 22-yard field goal to make the score 16-0 in favor of the Pride.
Despite trailing by 16 points, the Monarchs did not go away.
Methodist then went on to score the game’s final 41 points to secure the victory.
“We started out very strong in all three phases of the game,” Assistant Coach Paul Janoscak said. “I really think we got a little complacent after the fast start and we need to learn how to handle those situations.
“Our defense made some crucial stops in big moments for us. We will continue to grow as a team and work hard to get better each day. Now we turn our attention to N.C. Wesleyan next week.”
Keon Reynolds paced the Greensboro defense with 11 total tackles, while Garratt Brannock and Jeremiah Speed each recorded a sack, which resulted in a loss of 10 yards.
