Elon Football Continues to Climb in Polls

ELON, N.C. – After extending its longest winning streak since 2009 to five games with a 25-17 victory over William & Mary, the Elon University football team continued its ascension in the national rankings this week. The Phoenix checks in at #16 in the STATS FCS Poll and at #20 in the FCS Coaches Poll.

Elon (5-1) gained two spots in the STATS poll this week and garnered a total of 1,696 points. The maroon and gold sits between North Carolina A&T (6-0) and Illinois State (4-1) in the rankings.

Including Elon, the STATS poll ranks five CAA Football teams this week. James Madison (5-0) continues to hold the top spot. Other league programs in the rankings are #11 Villanova (4-2), #12 New Hampshire (4-1) and #13 Richmond (3-2).

In the coaches poll, the Phoenix moved up three places, picking up a total of 157 points. Just ahead of Elon is Grambling State (5-1), while the Phoenix sits just ahead of McNeese (5-1).

The coaches poll sees the same five conference programs ranked. JMU sits first, with New Hampshire at #12, Richmond at #13 and Villanova at #14.

Following a bye week, Elon will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 21, with a noon game at Rhode Island.
