Elon’s Christopher Collects CAA WSOC Rookie of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. – After finishing with a six-point week for the Phoenix, Elon University women’s soccer freshman forward Meredith Christopher was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Rookie of the Week on Monday, Oct. 9, as announced by the league office.

The Fort Mill, S.C. native, put together a six-point week as Elon tied with William & Mary and Northeastern last week. Christopher posted matching one-goal, one-assist efforts in both contests for the Phoenix. She now has a league-best five multi-point games this season. Christopher currently leads the CAA in points (22), including seven goals and a league-best eight assists.

This is the second time Christopher has been recognized by the league this season, having earned CAA Player of the Week accolades on August 21.

The honor is the second CAA Rookie of the Week award for a Phoenix this season as Reena Wichmann also collected CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 11. Christopher’s award is Elon’s fourth CAA weekly honor overall this season. In addition to two accolades for Christopher, Tori Baliatico was named CAA Player of the Week on Sept. 18.

Other awards handed out Monday included Sarah Segan of William & Mary taking Player of the Week honors and Madeline Anderson of Hofstra earning Defensive Player of the Week.

The Phoenix returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 15, traveling to Hempstead, N.Y. to face league-leader Hofstra at 12:30 p.m.
